Have You Met John Van Zante?

We are shinning our employee spotlight on John Van Zante, our Equipment Sales and Service Manager, this month! John was born in Mahaska County and grew up in Rural Rose Hill Iowa before moving to Fremont, IA.  Before coming to Mahaska, he worked for his dad, who owned his own company doing service station repair, tanks, pumps, etc.. We are fortunate to have had John with us for 36 years! Read to find out more about John:

What is a typical day at Mahaska look like for you?

I usually try to be here at 6:00am.  Unlock our Vending area, check for new messages or calls from overnight.  See what service orders we have if there is a trip warranted for an area.  Do paperwork, order parts and supplies.  I help with service calls and equipment moves when needed.

Favorite beverage that Mahaska distributes?

I don’t do caffeine, so lemonade is my favorite.

Favorite snack that Mahaska distributes?

Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups.

What do you do outside of Mahaska for fun?

I’m involved with the Music Boosters program in our school, and I really enjoy helping with our band.  Marching band season is my favorite.

What’s something no one would guess about you?

I’m the Mayor of Fremont, IA.

How would you think your friends describe you in one sentence?

Probably that I’m too busy and should slow down.

What are you most passionate about?

The school music program.

Are you involved in the local community? If so, how?

After serving on the city council of Fremont for several years, I’m now the Mayor.  I was also on our volunteer fire department and was an EMT with our local ambulance.

What have you seen Mahaska do that benefits the local community?

Mahaska supports area schools, service organizations, and clubs with donations and any other help the company can provide.

How would you describe “Midwest Values?”

Being there when someone needs help and doing your best to honor commitments that have been made.
