Title at Mahaska: Administrative Assistant
Time at Mahaska: >1 Year
What was your job before coming to Mahaska?
Salina Police Department (911 Dispatch)
What drew you to Mahaska originally?
My family! I was longing for something more accomodating to my children’s schedules.
What have you gained from working at Mahaska?
I have met some nice people and gained more time at home with my children.
What does a typical day look like for you?
I gather the newspaper and any route batches from the day
prior and complete my reconciling and registers (checking each deposit bag for accuracy, and tallying up
totals for internal logging). I then get the deposit run and any packages ready to go for 9am. After that I
begin my Tel Sell calls until lunch hour 12:00pm. I then go to the post office on my way back from lunch
and grab the mail. Come back at 1:00pm and get back to my Tel Sell calls until the 2pm sendoff time. I
check the mailbox outside for the rest of the mailed documents. Separate into their batches for deposits
and create slips and scan them in. I also scan all of the necessary paperwork for the departments
(service, statements, and bills) here as well and file some individually near my desk. Complete any
laminations, paperwork or any other requests. Then the route drivers start to call in and I preprint a
checklist to confirm amount of bags and check for any differences. Then I begin counting at 2:30-5pm as
well as printing and pre paperwork during and getting route change and completing the emails via Par
Level. I take customer phone calls during regular work hours 8-5pm and add to the service call log.
Depending on the day of the month I may have to order supplies, complete additional tickets, order
uniforms, assist HR, complete required forms for Express Employment, completing onboarding for new
hires, scheduling drug tests, updating internal employee’s forms, shared docs, and monthly/end of pay
period requirements as well as awards, Tell Me Something good program etc.
Favorite Beverage that Mahaska distributes?
Pepsi!!
Favorite Snack that Mahaska distributes?
That’s a hard one, would depend on the day. 🙂 I do thoroughly enjoy the 3 Musketeer’s and Garden Salsa Sun Chips.
What do you do outside of Mahaska for fun?
fun? Spend lots of quality time with my two kids Aubree (11)
and Lawrence (8), my boyfriend Justin and my dog Luci! Anything outdoors (trails, parks, fairs, car
shows). My kids take part in 4-H (swine, calves, art, and baking, the pedal pull competitions) every year
and are becoming more involved in sports. Justin and I do SCCA Racing in his 2000 Mustang, golf
tournaments, and go to the NHRA races as well. We love the lake, and working on home projects as well
as any of our 5 vehicles. With what time we spare we ride our motorcycles he has a 2006 Harley-
Davidson Street Glide and I have a 2009 Yamaha R6 and a 2009 Harley-Davidson Dyna Custom!
If you could pick a super power, which would it be? Why?
To freeze time or even slow it down somedays. So that I have more time to complete my daily tasks at work and to spend more time with my kids and watch them grow up.
What inspires you?
My family inspires me! They drive me to be the best that I can be in order to provide them with the life they deserve.
If you had $1,000,000 how would you spend it?
Save, invest and pay off what I can. Plan for my children’s futures and mine as well.
What is your favorite quote?
“100 years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the knid of car I drove… but the world may be differnt because I was important in the life of a child.”
